Board of Directors Approve 2013 Charity Partner

It is with great excitement that the Board of Directors approve “Cancer is a Drag! – Canada”  as the 2013 Charity Partner for IGRA.  This Charity is not known well, so here is a little information about them. “Cancer is a Drag!” was founded in 2005 in Ottawa, Ontario.  This charity is about fundraising and gaining sponsorship to provide financial support to all people living with cancer. They want to help people going through this trauma to have a better life; whether it means buying a decent wig, paying  for hospital parking, going on a little break or with paying the bills while off work. Going through Cancer for the second time Diva Vera, the founder, decided it was time to get creative. She got her close friends on board and decided to set up this charity. There were times when she was struggling to pay her mortgage while going through chemotherapy and there just wasn’t the financial support out there to help her. After winning her battle with cancer Diva Vera and her friends continued hosting shows and Drag themed events to help others who are battling cancer.  ”Cancer is a Drag!” has grown to having chapters in England and participated in World Gay Pride spreading their message “Cancer is a Drag!

With their campaign they state that cancer has many colors and we want to do the same.  On Saturday we want to show support for every person who is battling this disease, so we are asking that everyone wear blue and silver.  blue and silver are the colors of the ribbon that show support for Coping with Cancer.  Unfortunately majority of  us have been touched by someone with cancer or have battled it themselves.  So keeping with “Cancer has many Colors”, we would like to see everyone wearing the color that represents the Cancer that has touched your live.  For example, Let’s say important in your life is fighting Kidney Cancer.  We would like you to wear a green shirt.  There are several websites that have lists of Ribbon Colors and what they stand for.  Everyone of us have a unique story about cancer and this is a beginning of how you can share your story.

It is going to be an amazing time on the circuit this year. I can’t wait to see everyone and hear the stories that have touched your lives. Keep in mind the world is a better place because you are in it. Be safe and God Bless.
