2010 Rodeo Rule Changes Highlights

New Contestants may contact the IGRA Administrative Assistant for assistance in getting set up to pre-register for rodeos, becoming member's of associations, provide rule books, and additional education prior to competing in IGRA Rodeos. If they choose this option, they need to do so a minimum of 30 days in advance of their first Rodeo, so they can be assigned an IGRA #, and pre-register for their first Rodeo.

The intent is to improve the education of our new contestants prior to their first rodeo, as well as minimize the # of new contestants at Rodeo's and be better capable to provide adequate stock. It does not disable a new contestant from joining and registering at Friday night registration.

RULE II 12.
The IGRA Contestant Liaison or designee shall attend the new contestant meeting.

Mailed registrations must be postmarked no less than 20 days prior to the rodeo's first performance. Electronic Registrations must have a time/date stamp no less than 15 days prior to the rodeo's first performance.

The Refundable Horse Stall Deposit
is no longer required when pre-registering for a Rodeo. Contestants must still reserve the appropriate number of stalls in pre-registration to avoid being fined a $50 fee for each Horse stall not reserved.

Contestant Requirement in Rodeo Registration:
Minimum deposit (non-refundable) with Rodeo Pre-Registration has increased from $50 to $75 per contestant.

Any questions or rule clarifications from a contestant or rodeo personnel may be addressed at the New Contestant Meeting. Time and location of this meeting is to be posted by the Rodeo Secretary at Rodeo Registration.

Option of using your 4 digit IGRA Number as your Contestant competition number is allowed. Please review under Registration section for exact guidelines. Information on the back of numbers is no longer required, but we may be using up the old ones - so it is no longer required for the contestant to sign them.

New Rule Section XIV
Professional Conduct and Ethical Issues has been created. Rules pertaining to this have been imported.

Disqualification in events: (Rule V - Judges)
If a contestant is penalized or disqualified in a Rough Stock or Camp Event, Judge(s) must notify contestant(s) prior to contestant(s) leaving the arena. Judges and/or Timers must record times for all contestants / teams / go's.

Judges must note the rough Stock Riding Score Sheet with the reason for the DQ and reference to rule if possible.

Disqualification for fighting is a joint decision of the Rodeo Director and one other certified Official.

Arena Director or assignee to time the 60 second rule for contestants entering the arena.

The Chute Coordinator and Arena Director will inspect and examine all Bucking Chutes, Roping Chutes, Loading Pens, Alleyways and Arena for unsafe or unsuitable conditions prior to rodeo performance.

Goats
Arena Director has discretion to change the goats at any time in consideration for health and safety but at a maximum of 8 heats.
(Webmasters note: There has been a lot of confusion on this rule. We are not sure how the word minimum got into the text as it should have said maximum as it now shows)

Rule XII 4. C. 3.
Association will provide a minimum of six (6) halters and six (6) cotton ropes with the following dimensions:... Knots are not allowed in ropes.

Clarification of Steers under Rule VII - Rodeo Livestock:

Associations not following this rule, can incur a $100 fine per intended use of each animal that does not follow the outlined specifications, and the costs associated with obtaining required stock.

There is also a document added to Rodeo Resources - Castration in Cattle - Welfare Issues that explains in detail our commitment to animal welfare dealing with castration.
