In anticipation of the upcoming Hot Rodeo 2012 in Palm Springs, a Patch regional director tells about her first time competing in rodeo. She tried steer deco and goat dressing at Hot Rodeo 2011.
“It was literally my first rodeo. My sister Stef and her husband Jeff Curtis from Broomfield, Colo., have been competing and having fun in gay rodeo events for a couple of years.
When we learned the rodeo was coming to Banning, Stef asked me to compete with her in the goat dressing competition.
Yes, I am thinking what you are thinking, what is goat dressing? Turns out, it’s a fast little event where two contestants compete to get men’s fruit-of-the-looms on a goat in the… Continue reading

It is with deep regret that SCCGRA announces the cancellation of the Sierra Stampede Rodeo scheduled for June 8-10, 2012 in Sacramento, CA.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We are planning for a rodeo school/play day/dance for Saturday, June 9 (our original rodeo date).
More details to follow as we finalize plans.

In July 2011, along with Brian Rogers and Patrick Terry, Frank Harrell started the Gay Rodeo History website. This website now includes ALL 380 of the rodeo programs and 15 rodeo oriented magazines that reside in the IGRA Archives and some that were loaned for scanning. That makes approximately 13,000 scanned pages, and 8 months of work by Archivist Frank Harrell. The committee congratulates and thanks Frank for this prodigious achievement.
In addition to rodeo programs and magazines the site features scans of old rodeo rule books, rodeo pins, buckles passes and other interesting artifacts. New to the site is the In Memoriam page where individuals who have made an impact of gay rodeo and/or their community can me memorialized.… Continue reading
Once again this year IGRA was proud to be a featured partner with Bud Light at the 19th Annual Original GLBT Expo. The event was held on March 17 and 18, 2012 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. Over 20,000 people attended the exposition, and IGRA once again was providing bull rides on the “mechanical” bull loaned to IGRA by ASGRA. Thanks to Bruce Roby, GSGRA President, for the photos.
The newly updated Rodeo Production Guidebook is now available on the IGRA website.
