Board of Directors Approve 2013 Charity Partner

It is with great excitement that the Board of Directors approve “Cancer is a Drag! – Canada”  as the 2013 Charity Partner for IGRA.  This Charity is not known well, so here is a little information about them. “Cancer is a Drag!” was founded in 2005 in Ottawa, Ontario.  This charity is about fundraising and gaining sponsorship to provide financial support to all people living with cancer. They want to help people going through this trauma to have a better life; whether it means buying a decent wig, paying  for hospital parking, going on a little break or with paying the bills while off work. Going through Cancer for the second time Diva Vera,… Continue reading

As 2012 draws to a close…

imageAs the title says, since my last official duty and trip to convention as Miss IGRA 2012 I have been reminiscing a great deal. Of course I have had a lot of time to do so since for the last three weeks I have been down with another run in with bronchitis.

Although I will not miss dealing with airlines or the steady flow of cash it takes to be so heavily involved as an IGRA team member, I will miss feeling so connected with my team mates and the organization. I am not going to disappear but will be focusing on my day job more and am looking forward to moving into a new direction in life. This means… Continue reading

Best Buck in the Bay is the Best in Many Ways

What an amazing way to finish up my rodeo year travel season by heading out to Half Moon Bay, California which by itself is a wonderful vacation spot within spitting distance from the ocean. Then to take the 15 mile trip down Highway 1 to the La Honda Rodeo grounds was simply icing on the cake. The view of rugged coast lines and tall pines was breath taking and the mist of the ocean through the open windows of my rented Kia Soul was a very welcome reminder of why this land locked Texan still pines for days of walks along the beach, hot or cold, day or night.

John Paul, Taylor and I shared accommodations and we had an… Continue reading

A Long Overdue Memoir (or how I Spent My Summer, Vacationless)

Dear Gentle Reader,

Since the beginning of July my schedule has picked up such speed that I have not had much time for rest and reflection.  Since my last  post I have been to Colorado, Michigan,New Mexico & Missouri.  I have also had the honor of hosting a couple Voice of Pride events (Dallas gayborhood’s own  version of American Idol) Participated as a former of the newly returned Miss Gay Dallas America Pageant,  done makeup and hair for three friends and Cohosted the Miss Lifewalk Pageant, Cohosted and supported  several TGRA Candidate shows, produced the Miss Yellow Rose of Texas Pageant Peformed two shows at the Rose Room Friday and Saturday two weeks ago,… Continue reading

The welcoming wonder of Canada

I can’t begin to tell you how much I was looking forward to being a part of the Alberta Rockies Gay Rodeo Association’s festivities.  When first recieving the Miss IGRA crown in November, I made a point of telling Sterling, “my first choice of a must do rodeo is Calgary.”  I have been talking about this trip for months to everyone within ear shot.  Even with all my anticipation, it could not have prepared me for what this past weekend held in store. The evening before leaving, Sterling let the cat out of the bag that he was giving me an early anniversary gift of the lastest ipad to help the long… Continue reading

The Whirlwind Picks Up Speed

Besides the earthquake tremors and massive hail storms (I’m wondering if we will be seeing either frogs, boils or plague next) It was a BIG fundraising week for me. I’m tired but happy.
We are now nearing the end of month six (when IGRA By-Laws state royalty members must have completed their “requirements”) happily mine are complete and everything from here on out is just that much more gravy. The team is hard at work making a strong dent in the $25,000.00 goal we set for ourselves. I think we are possibly a third of the way there.
Personally, after a full day at the Salon cranking hair, my performance week began in full swing. Saturday Evening on 6/9… Continue reading

MY MEN & ME

20120527-160612.jpg
What an fantastic weekend! It never fails that when I hit Oklahoma City I have a A+++ stay. This rodeo is no exception.

After a full day at work, I drove up Thursday night with the Puddy Dogs in tow. Sterling had to stay in Big D to supervise the completion of our foundation renovation at the house.
We arrived at our favorite La Quinta within spitting distance of the Airport host hotel and Fair/Rodeo Grounds. It’s our favorite because they do not charge for the pups staying, there is a pool and a dog out door area complete with disposing stations for puppy potty breaks. After unpacking to the sound of the digital ocean on… Continue reading
