IGRA Dance As far back as the beginning of gay rodeo, dance has been an integral part of our western heritage. Country and Western dance has been a main staple of the rodeo weekend’s activities–our cowboys and cowgirls love their dance! Whether the song calls for a boot-scootin two-step or a fast, high-spirited line dance, the dance floor quickly fills with people craving their fix of western dance. When gay rodeo began, large dance troupes from across the country would take the stage (after a hard day of rodeo) to get the folks loosened up for a night of fun and relaxation. Cowfolks would dance until the wee hours of the morning knowing only a few, short hours of sleep would have to suffice before rodeo the next day. The International Gay Rodeo Association wholeheartedly supports country and western dance. The IGRA Dance Competition is held annually at IGRA University. Whether a beginner or a professional, there is a place for all within IGRA Dance. Watch for your local association’s competitions; local competitions are being held from Colorado to Missouri to Texas and places in between. New dance champions are already preparing for a great Competition at IGRA University in St. Louis in January 2013. It’s not too late for you to be a part of this IGRA tradition.
